Dispute with the German Tax Office
A dispute with the German tax office should be approached from the specific notice, the relevant deadline, the factual record and the procedural remedy available.

Reviewing the tax assessment
The assessment, reasons, calculations and legal-remedy instructions should be checked against the return, documents and applicable law. The objective may be correction of a factual error, a different legal classification or challenge to an estimate.
Objection and enforcement
German tax procedure provides an objection process for many tax administrative acts. Filing an objection does not automatically answer every enforcement issue, so payment and suspension questions may need separate attention.
Fiscal-court proceedings
If the dispute is not resolved administratively, proceedings before the fiscal courts may be considered subject to the statutory requirements. The claim, evidence, deadlines and cost risk should be assessed before filing.
Preparing a tax-law review
For a tax-law assessment, please gather the tax assessment or other authority notice, the tax return and relevant schedules, supporting documents, correspondence with the tax office and the exact date of service. A short chronology is particularly important where objection or court deadlines may be running.
Tax objections and court proceedings are deadline-sensitive. The correct remedy depends on the specific notice.
